Although we have some of the most outstanding and talented Real Estate Agents in all of New Mexico, we believe that there is so much more than to life than just selling real estate! This series is all about discovering a little bit more about our community, not just as brokers, but as people; all hobbies, quirks, and backgrounds included! This week, we got to connect with the genuinely kind, Matt Burga.
First off, where are you from, and how long have you been in Santa Fe?
I was born and raised in Glendale, California and have been living in Santa Fe for 8-9 years.
What is something not a lot of people know about you? (Hobbies, talents, interests, etc.?)
I love to dance to all sorts of music. Salsa, Cumbia, Hip-Hop, pop just to name a few. I’ve been dancing since my little feet could hold me up. I also enjoy photography, fashion, I am a HUGE gamer. Let’s not forget HUGE grandma’s boy. My life, my rock, my whole world is that lady in my life. She raised me since I was a baby and call her mom. I’m an animal lover and lastly, the best wingman you could ever become friends with!
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I honestly don’t like this question for myself to answer because my whole life I never really had an answer for that. I don’t have any particular thing I want to be when I grew up. When I was young, I always knew life was too short. That the following day was never guaranteed and life was full of possibilities. I grew up wanting to at least try to be as much as I can possibly be in my lifetime. I want to experience all sorts of jobs careers, places to live, different people to befriend. Life isn’t about doing one thing for the rest of your life. It’s about enjoying as much as possible in our lifetime.
Why real estate and what have you learned on this journey?
I decided to give real estate a try because purchasing a home is a part of life that I would like to experience one day and wanted to see what it took to become a homeowner. Also the feeling of accomplishment when I am able to help a client find the right home they are looking for. Home is where you make the best memories, and to be part of that making of memories for my clients is the best feeling. I’ve learned that it is quite the process to be a homeowner and also learned how to maintain a home so that when it comes time to sell, I will be able to sell at the current market value or possibly even more 🙂
To you, what sets Coldwell Banker Trails West Realty, Ltd. apart from the rest?
The amount of continuing education Coldwell Banker provides for rookies like me and veterans alike. They are always on top of any changes to the market or our association and there is always someone to help you. The hospitality the office shows to anyone who comes through our doors and how attentive our agents and staff are. We strive for excellent service and we do not fall short of that. Come on by and see for yourself! 🙂
What drives you? Why get out of bed in the morning?
This is a tough one that I’m going to try to write without crying! The drive I have comes from the loved ones I’ve lost through my journey on this earth. My uncle, grandpa, great grandma and my cousin (who was my everything and I lost when I was 12, he was 24-25) and my fluffy fur babies (Jordan, Rowdy and Lady) give me the drive I have today. My family came from a very difficult life in Peru. They weren’t rich, they didn’t know English very well but they busted their butts to move to the United States for a better life and unfortunately never got a chance to experience life the way I am experiencing it now. That is the reason I am able to get up every morning. For them to be proud of me from up in heaven and to hopefully let them experience a little bit of this wonderful life through my eyes.
What is something you’ve learned in life that others can also learn and grow from?
Baggage! We need to learn how to let go of our old baggage and move forward in life. People dwell too much on the past that it hinders their futures. I don’t get how people don’t understand how much easier life can be if we just come together! How much more stress-free and happier times we could be having right now if we learned to have some common courtesy.
